  Work Permit

Work Visas/Permits - based on an offer of employment in occupations on either:

  • the Immediate Skills Shortage List (ISSL) and/or

  • the Long Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL)

For a temporary Work Visa/Permit to be approved the New Zealand Immigration Service has the following requirements:

  • The ISSL is a list of identified occupations for which there is a shortage of skilled workers in New Zealand. It is centrally maintained and reviewed bi-annually by the NZIS.

  • The LTSSL is a list of identified occupations for which there is an ongoing and sustained shortage of skilled workers both globally and in New Zealand.

  • If an applicant produces an offer of employment in an occupation that is included on the current ISSL or LTSSL visa and immigration officers will accept that no suitably qualified New Zealand citizens or residents are available.

There are opportunities for skilled and experienced people to live and work in New Zealand are extensive. The NZIS publishes two skills lists that show the opportunities. These are:

  • Immediate Skills Shortage List (ISSL)

  • Long Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL)
