  Work Visas/Permits

There are many different types of work visas/permits. If you interested in working in New Zealand with a view to migrating here please go to the 'Work Visas' area of this website.

The information on this page is for temporary work visas/permits.

Work Visas/Permits - based on an offer of employment in occupations on either:

  • the Immediate Skills Shortage List (ISSL) and/or

  • the Long Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL)

For a temporary Work Visa/Permit to be approved the New Zealand Immigration Service has the following requirements:

  • The ISSL is a list of identified occupations for which there is a shortage of skilled workers in New Zealand. It is centrally maintained and reviewed bi-annually by the NZIS.

  • The LTSSL is a list of identified occupations for which there is an ongoing and sustained shortage of skilled workers both globally and in New Zealand.

  • If an applicant produces an offer of employment in an occupation that is included on the current ISSL or LTSSL visa and immigration officers will accept that no suitably qualified New Zealand citizens or residents are available.

Work Visas/Permits - for seasonal work in the areas of either horticulture or viticulture

There are 4000 places available annually for people who would like to come to New Zealand to work in the high season for both horticulture or viticulture.

NOTE: Where NZIS has identified that there is a demand for workers in these industries in particular regions, work permits approved will be endorsed with conditions allowing work in those regions only.

To be approved under this policy you must meet the following requirements:

  • Not previously have been granted a permit under this policy

  • Meet NZIS health and character requirements

  • Provide evidence of a return ticket, or sufficient funds to puchase such a ticket

  • Provide evidence that you have a minimum of NZ$350 per month available funds for the period of your stay in NZ. (Traveller's cheques or bank documents in your name are acceptable)

  • Evidence of an offer of employment is not required.
